Moving to Scottsdale From Another Major AZ City? Costs that Are Commonly Neglected When Finding Your New Home
Buying a home is probably the biggest purchase you will ever make. There are few decisions so important, as well. This purchase will affect your finances for decades to come. When you are getting ready to move, you have to think beyond the down payment on your house, the upcoming mortgage payments, and other associated costs with closing the transaction. Beginning with hiring interstate moving companies, there are other financial matters that can catch you off-guard if you are not ready.
Going With Professional Movers
Before you leave for your new Scottsdale, AZ, home, consider the benefits of hiring a professional moving company. Packing up all your belongings and handling the loading and unloading of all these boxes, appliances, and furniture can be stressful and time-consuming. A moving company can relieve this burden and let you focus on other matters.
Don’t forget, however, that this is an additional cost as you prepare to move. Research different movers carefully. Be sure to get multiple quotes and find out if any potential companies require upfront money. Get an accurate estimate from each place based on the distance you are moving, how long you will need services, and how many items you will have to move.
Paying for Packing Materials
If you decide to pack your own belongings, be on the lookout for boxes. If you end up going to the local home improvement store and buying containers there, you could spend hundreds of dollars. If you don’t have a few boxes to spare at home, use other items. Suitcases, duffle bags, and even garbage bags are excellent alternatives for storing clothes, towels, linens, and kitchenware.
Paying for Utilities
Like so many cities in Arizona, the summers can be rough in Scottsdale. You can’t do without a reliable HVAC system. Other utilities such as water, garbage removal, and internet services are essential throughout the year. Sometimes the bills can get high, but you know these costs are worth it. But don’t get stuck paying for what you don’t use.
Too many residents forget to call their providers to stop these services at their old house. You will continue to receive bills unless you request for the providers to shut them off. Arrange a few weeks before you move for the termination of these accounts. Tell the companies the day you will be moving so you can benefit from the services up until the end but not a day longer.
Even if you are moving to Scottsdale from a nearby city, you’re going to spend some money on gas to get your belongings there. Budget accordingly by figuring out how far your destination is and how much the current rate is on gas. If possible, only take one trip to move your possessions from your old house to your new one.
You can save some money by planning and preparing for your upcoming move. Extra expenses are inevitable when you sell your house and move into a new one. But you can avoid significant blows to your budget when you follow these tips and guidelines.
